Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the 2020 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival - Keiki Kine at Kahala Mall has been canceled. Kahala Mall does not know when their center stage entertainment will resume, and guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, the State of Hawai‘i, and the City and County of Honolulu discourages and/or prohibits large public gatherings and concerts until further notice. HIMELE wishes to protect festival staff, musicians, and guests during this emergency and will support these directives.
The 1st annual Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival - Keiki Kine at the Kahala Mall was a huge success, with standing room only in the mall's center court. NextGen steel guitarists and musicians were assisted by Alan Akaka and Addison Ching on guitar, Natan Goore on bass, and guest musicians Bryan Tolentino and Halehaku Seabury who sat in during the middle segment featuring steel guitarists Hō‘ailona Mahuka, Enosa Lyman and Mālie Lyman.
The 2020 Hawaiian Steel Guitar Festival - Keiki Kine at Kahala Mall will be held on August 15, 2020 at Honolulu's Kahala Mall in East O‘ahu. This festival will begin at 1 PM and will feature Keiki NextGen steel guitar players and musicians age 10 and older from Alan Akaka's Ke Kula Mele Hawai‘i School of Hawaiian Music, singing and playing Hawai‘i's favorite Hawaiian music.
This festival will be presented free to the public by Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences (HIMELE) and the Kahala Mall.
